Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 8, 2026

This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We wrote this in plain language because nobody reads the ones written in legalese.

The short version: We collect as little data as possible. We don't sell your information. We don't run tracking pixels. We don't even set cookies from our site.

Who We Are

The Unsexy Stack is a product of Mayhew Technology LLC, based in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Our website is theunsexystack.com and purchases are processed through our store at shop.alexmayhew.dev (powered by Gumroad).

What Data We Collect

1. Purchase data (via Gumroad)

When you buy The Unsexy Stack, the transaction is handled entirely by Gumroad. Gumroad is the merchant of record, meaning they process your payment, not us.

What Gumroad shares with us:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Which product and tier you purchased
  • Transaction date and amount

What we never receive:

  • Credit card numbers
  • Bank account details
  • Billing address (beyond what Gumroad shares)

For details on how Gumroad handles your payment data, see Gumroad's Privacy Policy.

2. Analytics (optional, via PostHog)

If we have analytics enabled (it's gated behind an environment variable and may not always be active), we use PostHog to collect:

  • Page views
  • Scroll depth
  • Click events

This data is anonymized. We don't tie it to your identity. We use it to understand which parts of the site are useful and which aren't. No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected through analytics.

3. Email support

If you email us at alex@alexmayhew.dev, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly ask.

4. What we don't collect

  • No cookies are set by theunsexystack.com (PostHog, if active, may set its own)
  • No tracking pixels (no Facebook Pixel, no Google Ads, nothing)
  • No account creation on our site
  • No data sold to third parties, ever

How We Use Your Data

  • Purchase data: To deliver your product, provide support, and process refunds
  • Analytics data: To improve the website and understand what content is helpful
  • Support emails: To respond to your questions and provide help

That's it. We don't do “targeted advertising,” behavioral profiling, or anything else with your data.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

ServicePurposeData shared
GumroadPayment processingName, email, payment info (they handle it, not us)

  • Analytics data: Retained per PostHog's default retention settings (anonymized, no PII)
  • Support emails: Retained for as long as the conversation is relevant, then deleted

Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, you can contact us to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate data
  • Delete your data (subject to legal obligations like tax records)
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to processing of your data

For EU/EEA residents (GDPR)

Our legal basis for processing your data is legitimate interest (delivering a product you purchased and improving our website) and contractual necessity (fulfilling your purchase). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We respond to all data requests within 30 days.

For California residents (CCPA)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
